Aurangabad, Apr 19, 2013: As per the directives of the Supreme Court, the AMC has to collect the data of all persons involved in manual scavenging and submit it to the state by May 25.
The nodal officer of the survey and the chief animal husbandry officer in the AMC, B S Naikwade, on Thursday said that the state had directed the administration to give a report on whether the city is free from manual scavenging.

Mumbai, Apr 7, 2013: The Right to Education (RTE) Act is still far from being implemented in its totality, felt a group of 35-odd principals, educationists and education officials who got together at Y B Chavan Education Centre on Saturday.
The group met as part of 'Shikshan Katta', an informal forum on education.
One of the main concerns shared by principals was the latest state mandate asking new as well as existing teachers to adhere to qualifications as prescribed by the Act.
"The deadline for teachers to upgrade their qualification is March 2015.

Mumbai, Apr 3, 2013: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday directed the Maharashtra government to reimburse private-funded and unaided schools across the state for education of students belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes under the Right to Education Act.
A division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice N M Jamdar directed the government to disburse funds from the academic year 2010-11 irrespective of the income of the students' parents.

Pune, Mar 31, 2013: As the March 31 deadline for compliance with the Right To Education 2009 Act approaches, several states have sought an extension. Whereas in Maharashtra, officials claim that about 80 per cent of the schools have already complied with the RTE norms.

However, in the case of Saraswati Mandir and Tulip, that is a cause for celebration — the result of a "20-year dream" that they never thought possible till the Act mandated education for all without discrimination.
Meant for children with disabilities, 25 per cent of the schools' children have secured admission in regular schools since the RTE came in.

Approximately 160 leaders from business, civil society, UN agencies and other groups gathered to discuss collaborative approaches to water and sanitation problems.

Mumbai, Feb 20, 2013: More than 12 years after it undertook a survey of the city's toilets, the civic administration will once again map all toilets across the city. The BMC will conduct an extensive survey and map all public toilets for both male and female people across locations including all slums in the city.
"There is no comprehensive data of public toilets in the city. There is an urgent need for more toilets but one needs to undertake a gap analysis to plan further," said Rajiv Jalota, BMC additional municipal commissioner.

Mumbai, Jan. 7, 2012: The National Maila Mukti Yatra, undertaken by Rashtriya Garima Abhiyan (RGA), reached Mumbai on Monday after travelling through 10 States, giving a nationwide call for total eradication of manual scavenging practice from India.

The Yatra began from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh has covered several States such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. It will culminate on January 31 in New Delhi.
