Among Small States, Goa has largest Urban Population

Panaji, Goa, May 15, 2013: Goa has the largest urban population among small states in the country. This was revealed by the Census 2011 data released by the directorate of census operations on Tuesday. The state's literacy rate has also increased to 88.70%.
The primary census abstract states that 62% of the Goan population lives in urban areas as compared to 49% in the 2001 census.
"Among small states, Goa has highest urban population in Goa," census operations director A K Wasnik said.

Goa misses RTE deadline

Panaji, Apr 1, 2013: From the time the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009 was born, Goa's relationship with it has been troublesome. Right from the extended school hours to integration of Class V with the primary section, provisions of the RTE had parents and teachers up in cudgels.
The three year deadline to implement the act's provisions end for states across the country on March 31, 2013, yet not much has taken off in Goa, like in states across India, since RTE's notification in 2010.

Workshop on Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (rural sanitation) for Tiswadi, Goa on Jan 19, 2013

Goa, Jan 16, 2013: Public Works Department will be organizing a Block Level Workshop for Tiswadi Taluka on “Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan” on January 19, 2013. The Workshop will be held at Village Panchayat Community Hall, Taleigao, Goa from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. The Registration will begin from 9.00 a.m. to 9.30 a.m.


Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will be the Chief Guest for the inaugural function. Minister for PWD, Ramkrishna Dhavlikar, MLAs of St. Cruz, Cumbharjua, St. Andre and Taleigao will also be present for the function.

Parrikar launches Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan for Bardez, Goa

Mapusa, Dec. 7, 2012: Chief minister Manohar Parrikar has launched the block level Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA) for Bardez taluka in the presence of several ministers, MLAs and panchayat members at a function organized at Bodgeshwar hall, Mapusa on Thursday.


NBA is a centrally sponsored scheme on rural sanitation under the ministry of drinking water and sanitation, government of India. Public works department (PWD) is the implementing agency in the state.
