Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA) in the XIIth Five Year Plan

New Delhi, May 17, 2013: The Government of India has accorded a high priority to the Sanitation Sector. In the 12th Plan an outlay of Rs. 34,377 crores has been provided for rural sanitation as compared to Rs. 6540 crores in the 11th Plan, which is a significantly higher allocation (425% higher than the 11th Plan). The goal is to achieve 100% access to sanitation for all rural households in the Country by 2022 under the NBA.

Rally on total sanitation campaign in Zbto, Nagaland

Dimapur, May 8, 2013: Rally on total sanitation campaign was organised by Suruhuto Town Students’ Union under the sponsorship of WSSO, PHED at Suruhuto town on April 20.
Adhoc Town Council Suruhuto, chairman Shivikhu Shikhu was the special guest of the rally. Er G Mughalu, SDO, PHED Zunheboto division spoke on communitisation, its target and the steps to be initiated in the future.

Toilets in India: The Statistics Stink

May 1, 2013: Here’s the stinking truth. More than half of 1.2 billion people in India live without toilets. They squat on roadsides, in agriculture fields or at railway tracks and defecate in the open. This, despite the Indian government spending close to Rs1,250 billion on water and sanitation projects in the last 20 years. This fiscal, the UPA government has mounted the sanitation budget to Rs 15,260 crore against the revised estimate of Rs 13,000 crore.

Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan Guidelines

New Delhi, June 7, 2012:  The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has rechristened Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) as Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Initiative/NBA).


Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan abhiyan is significant for three reasons, the union minister, Jairam Ramesh said.



  • One, it has a focus on gram panchayats.
