Chandigarh, May 23, 2013: In a bid to ensure quality drinking water supply in urban areas, Punjab government today envisaged World Bank's technical support and guidance for execution of its ambitious programme to provide round-the-clock safe potable water to Ludhiana and Amritsar.
Raising the issue with the visiting World Bank (WB) team led by its Operation Adviser, Country Management Unit-India, Michael Haney, Badal urged him to help the state in ensuring quality drinking water across the state.
New Delhi, May 17, 2013: Under the centrally sponsored National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) as reported by the states on the online Integrated Management Information System (IMIS), of the Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation, out of the 16,66,075 rural habitations in the country, 5,05,309 rural habitations have access to safe drinking water supply through pipes.
As on 1.4.2012, there are no uncovered habitations remaining in the country, and about 2,58,241 habitations were partially covered i.e.
Chandigarh, May 10, 2013: To provide safe drinking water to rural masses, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today announced setting up of a Drinking Water Quality Testing Regulatory Authority in the state.
This was announced during a meeting to review the progress of various rural water supply schemes under the prestigious World Bank Project Stage-I with the seven-member World Bank team led by its senior water and sanitation specialist and task team leader Srinivasa Rao Podi Pi Reddy here.
Uganda, Apr 17, 2013: Uganda is likely to meet the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) target for access to safe water, but it is off track on sanitation, according to Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, the Minister of Water and Environment.
The Millennium Development Goals contain a commitment to halve, by 2015, the proportion of the people without access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation.
