Bangalore, May 12, 2012: The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan will initiate “Shalegagi Naavu Neevu’ (community towards school) for better implementation of the Right to Education Act. The programme will be initiated across the State from July 5.

The programme aims at a community inclusive approach to upgrade the quality of schools.
Representatives and public will sit together in the respective schools and come up with ideas to improve the infrastructure and strive for academic excellence.

The School Development Monitoring Committee (SDMC) personnel, public representatives, officials and members of the school administration will take part in the programme. Through this, SSA hopes to observe school activities on a daily basis, thereby aiding in improving the quality.

According to officials, SSA will also create awareness about the Act through bus advertising covering 2,000 buses across the State at a cost of Rs 25 lakh. As many as 800 theatres in the State will host advertisements about the Act across the State. Of these, about 300 are from rural areas.

Rs eight crore

Shiksha Ka Haq Abhiyaan, a programme initiated in 2011, will be now actively made use of for implementation of RTE. The Government has at its disposal Rs eight crore for the monitoring of school visits and publicity of RTE through various forms of mass media.

Of this, Rs one crore is for State sector while the rest Rs seven crore is to be divided among the 30 districts. The SSA has earmarked Rs 100 lakh for State sector, of which each school will receive Rs 1,678.

A state working group will be created including department officials and NGOs to monitor implementation of RTE. As many as 30 volunteers per block will be selected, adding up to 6,090 volunteers in the State. These volunteers will visit schools 10 times annually. (Source: DHNS)
